Learning Objectives

  1. Differentiate the classical endocannabinoid system from the expanded endocannabinoidome, including its major components and roles in homeostasis.
  2. Evaluate the evidence supporting the Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency hypothesis.
  3. Analyze the pharmacodynamic properties and clinical considerations of major phytocannabinoids and commonly used cannabinoid formulations.
  4. Evaluate clinically relevant cannabinoid drug interactions, drug-disease interactions, and evidence supporting the entourage hypothesis.
  5. Evaluate the evidence supporting cannabinoid therapy for symptoms and conditions commonly encountered in clinical practice.
  6. Assess the appropriateness of cannabinoid therapy based on patient-specific risks, contraindications, precautions, and applicable medical cannabis program requirements.
  7. Differentiate cannabinoid- and formulation-specific adverse effects and their implications for therapeutic selection.
  8. Apply patient-specific factors to optimize cannabinoid selection, formulation, dosing, and follow-up.
  9. Design individualized cannabinoid treatment strategies for complex patient presentations using conservative dosing, titration, monitoring, and therapeutic optimization principles.
  10. Identify common contaminants encountered throughout the medical cannabis supply chain and strategies used to minimize contamination.
  11. Interpret cannabis certificates of analysis using relevant analytical methods, potency results, and contaminant testing data.
  12. Compare regulatory frameworks governing hemp and medical cannabis across United States and international jurisdictions.
  13. Describe the role of standardized cannabis medication history and electronic health record documentation in supporting clinical assessment, medication reconciliation, and continuity of care.
  14. Identify professional roles, practice opportunities, and evidence-based resources that support pharmacist involvement in medical cannabis care.
