Featured Education: CliniCan Foundations

Build a Stronger Foundation in Clinical Cannabis Care

Join ISCPh on February 20, 2027 for CliniCan Foundations, an 8-hour live virtual educational program designed to strengthen the clinical knowledge needed to evaluate and support patients using cannabis and cannabinoid therapies.

The program covers cannabinoid pharmacology, clinical evidence, medication safety, therapeutic decision-making, product quality, standardized documentation, and the evolving role of pharmacists in cannabis care.

8.0 ACPE-approved contact hours are available for eligible participants.

ISCPh works to strengthen the clinical infrastructure needed to integrate cannabis and cannabinoid therapies into contemporary healthcare. Our work focuses on education, clinical practice, research, and professional collaboration, with an emphasis on medication safety, evidence-based decision-making, and the evolving role of pharmacists in cannabis care.

Education

ISCPh provides evidence-based continuing education, professional development, and clinical resources designed to help pharmacists and other healthcare professionals build confidence in cannabinoid pharmacology, therapeutic evidence, medication safety, dosing, product quality, documentation, and patient counseling. Our educational programs are designed to support both clinicians who are new to cannabis care and those already practicing in the field.

Clinical Practice

ISCPh supports the development of practical tools and standards that help clinicians integrate cannabis and cannabinoid therapies into routine patient care. This includes medication history, therapeutic assessment, drug interaction evaluation, adverse-effect management, treatment optimization, documentation, and care coordination. We also advocate for meaningful pharmacist involvement wherever cannabis is used as part of a patient’s therapeutic regimen.

Research

ISCPh develops and evaluates practical frameworks intended to improve how cannabis-related care is studied and documented. Current initiatives focus on standardized characterization of cannabinoid exposure, assessment of therapeutic response and tolerability, documentation of pharmacist interventions, and evaluation of medication and patient outcomes. Our goal is to support research that can be translated into more consistent and clinically useful practice.

Professional Community

ISCPh connects pharmacists, healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, students, and allied professionals working across cannabis care. Through professional networking, collaborative research, educational programming, working groups, and organizational partnerships, we create opportunities for members to share expertise, develop new initiatives, and contribute to the advancement of cannabis care across practice settings and countries.

Building the Infrastructure for Evidence-Based Cannabis Care

ISCPh is leading collaborative projects designed to improve how cannabis and cannabinoid therapies are documented, assessed, and evaluated in clinical practice.

Medical Cannabis Medication History

Developing a standardized approach to characterizing cannabis and cannabinoid exposure within the medication history so clinicians can move beyond simple documentation of whether a patient uses cannabis.

Cannabinoid Evaluation and Recommendation System (CbERS)

A proposed clinical decision framework designed to support standardized assessment of therapeutic response and tolerability and guide optimization of dose, cannabinoid ratio, timing, frequency, formulation, and route.

CANN-PIC

Clinical Interventions Performed by Pharmacists in Medical Cannabis Care is developing standardized terminology for documenting pharmacist interventions across cannabis practice settings.
